About Ivy

Hello, I am Ivy, from China. Many students study Chinese for a long time but still find it hard to speak, or they freeze when a real conversation begins. This is not because they lack talent. Often, there is still a distance between textbook Chinese and real Chinese. My lessons help you cross that distance.

My teaching starts from understanding. I connect Chinese characters, grammar, pronunciation, and tone with your interests, background, native language, and learning habits, so Chinese becomes something you can truly use, not only memorize.

Teaching Focus

Understanding matters more than memorizing.

When learning characters, we can look at structure, word formation, and cultural origins. When learning grammar, I connect Chinese patterns with language logic you already know.

Tone is not decoration.

My Mandarin is clear and standard, with a Putonghua test score of 92/100. My background in music composition also helps me guide sound, rhythm, and pronunciation position.

What You Can Learn

  • Beginner Chinese, HSK preparation, pinyin, pronunciation, and tones
  • Daily conversation, travel Chinese, and real-life expression for work and life
  • Intermediate and advanced listening and speaking practice
  • Chinese culture, history, tea culture, music, and contemporary life topics

Culture And Voice

I have studied in the United States and France and have long experience with cross-cultural communication. I understand that students often need more than vocabulary: they need to understand another way of expressing, living, and thinking.

Besides teaching Chinese, I am also a traditional tea practitioner and have served as a judge in tea ceremony competitions. I also explore how Chinese classical poetry can meet music while respecting Mandarin tones.

Student Progress

  • A complete beginner passed HSK 2 after four months of one lesson per week, missing only two questions.
  • A student who started at HSK 5 was able, after six months, to chat naturally with Ivy entirely in Chinese about real-life topics.
